Governors

Our governors share the same responsibilities as our trustees, albeit in a lighter-touch role. They advise us, persuade friends and colleagues to support us, and pledge or broker financial support. Taken together, trustees and governors form the [London Institute Council](https://lims.ac.uk/perspectives/london-institute-council/).

Dr Sedunova is a Visitor at LIMS and a Simons CRM Scholar in Montréal. One of her research focuses is integral points on algebraic curves.

Dr Bywater is a Visitor at LIMS and was most recently at the Crick Institute. His research is on physical chemistry and information theory.

Mr Bao is a Visitor at LIMS and a final-year PhD student at the University of London. His research is on string theory and quantum gravity.

Miss Whitby is the accountant for LIMS and its incubator LIMS Ventures. She also supports our Finance Director and Development Director.

Dr Cole is a science writer for LIMS, where she contributes to our website, and a postdoc in cosmology at the University of Amsterdam.

Mr Hodgkinson is a science writer at LIMS, where he writes for the press and our website. He is also a novelist, journalist, and critic.

Dr Hall is a science writer at LIMS, where she writes for the press and our website. Her background is in mathematical biology research.

Dr Bhattacharya is chief science writer at LIMS. He writes about our research and promotes our mission in the science and mainstream press.

Mr Fedosyeyev is the lead developer for the acclaimed LIMS website and creates algorithms and visualisation methods for research projects.

Mr Rybiansky shapes LIMS’s website and visual style, digital and print—making sure everything runs smoothly and looks effortlessly sharp.

Mr Emamy is the Finance Director for LIMS and LIMS Ventures. He was previously CFO at Nest Corporation and several financial services firms.

Justine Crean is the assistant to the director at LIMS. She helps manage our scientists and staff and coordinate the Institute’s activities.

Mrs Myers Cornaby is the LIMS Development Director, where she has raised funds for our Arnold and Landau posts and is growing our endowment.

Sir Roy was a LIMS Trustee. He is a professor of epidemiology at Imperial College and former Chief Scientist at the Ministry of Defence.

Prof. Pietronero was a LIMS Trustee. He is a professor of physics at the University of Rome, Sapienza and a winner of the Enrico Fermi Prize.

Dr Ochirov is a Landau Research Fellow at LIMS, having previously worked in Oxford and Zurich. His research is on quantum field theory.

Dr Stepanenko is an Arnold & Landau Junior Fellow. His research focuses on the design of quantum systems that exhibit topological effects.

Dr Lysov is an Arnold Fellow at LIMS. His work focuses on tropical mirror symmetry, supersymmetric localisation and asymptotic symmetries.

Dr Carta is a Leverhulme Postdoctoral Fellow at LIMS. His research focuses on string theory, phenomenology and quantum field theories.

Dr Sobko is a Fellow at LIMS. His work focuses on the discovery and analysis of integrable models in quantum field theory and string theory.

Dr Sheldon is a Junior Fellow at LIMS, following a physics postdoc at Los Alamos. He works on mathematical biology and neural computing.

Dr Gamayun is an Arnold & Landau Fellow. He works on applications of quantum field theory and mathematical physics to condensed matter theory.

Prof. Esterov is an Arnold & Landau Fellow. His work combines enumerative algebraic geometry, Galois theory and the geometry of polytopes.

Dr Burtsev is an Arnold & Landau AI Fellow. His research is on the mathematical tools and ideas that could lead to more intelligent AI.

Prof. Kosyak is an Arnold & Landau Fellow. His research is on the representation theory of infinite-dimensional groups and the braid group.

Prof. Shkredov is an Arnold Fellow at LIMS and a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He works on number theory and сombinatorics.

As well as a Fellow at LIMS, Prof. He is a professor of mathematics at the University of London. He works on AI-guided mathematics.

Dame Shirley was a LIMS Trustee. She is a co-founder of the Porter Foundation, which supports several organisations in the UK and Israel. 

Catherine Meyer was a LIMS Trustee. She is a Conservative Peer in the House of Lords and founder and President of Action against Abduction.

Sir Peter was a LIMS Trustee and a Vice President of the Royal Society. He is an industry leader with a background in semiconductor physics.

Prof. Tombrello was a LIMS Trustee and a professor of physics at Caltech. He applied physics techniques to materials and planetary science.

Sir John was a LIMS Trustee. He is a professor at Oxford and former Government Chief Scientific Adviser. He works on mathematical ecology.

As well as a Trustee, Mr Reeves is Chairman of the BCG Henderson Institute and works on organisation intelligence and AI-assisted discovery.

Dr Fink is the Director of and a Fellow at the London Institute. His research is on statistical physics, combinatorics and evolvable systems.

Talulah Riley is a LIMS Trustee. An actress, author and tech entrepreneur, she also helps us spread the gospel of curiosity driven science.

Dr Wang is the Ben Delo Fellow at LIMS. He works on ultra unification, high-energy physics, condensed matter and quantum information.

Florian Schuster is a LIMS Trustee. An investor and entrepreneur, he advises on financial strategy, promotes our values and raises funding.

Dr Kurnosov is a Khodorkovsky Research Fellow at LIMS. His work focuses on complex geometry, hyperkähler geometry and Calabi-Yau manifolds.

Prof. Vladimir Kazakov works at École Normale Supérieure and is renowned for his foundational work on matrix models and integrability. He visits us for five days to collaborate on the principal chiral model and give a lecture on a new approach to correlation functions in AdS/CFT.

Prof. Konstantin Zarembo is a physicist at Nordita in Stockholm and a pioneer of integrability in AdS/CFT. He visits LIMS to collaborate on a project exploring the two-dimensional principal chiral model, and to give a lecture on the Peierls transition in the Gross–Neveu model.

Prof. Alexander Migdal of the Institute for Advanced Study is recognised for seminal contributions to quantum field theory, quantum gravity and turbulence. He delivers a lecture on Yang-Mills gradient flow and engages in discussions with our scientists during his three-day visit.

Prof. Edward Frenkel is a mathematician at UC Berkeley, a DJ and the author of the international bestseller “Love and Math”. He visits LIMS to give a seminar on his recent research on integrable models and discuss his life and work with our chief science writer and Prof. Yang-Hui He.

Dr Alexey Milekhin is a quantum information scientist at the University of Kentucky. His research bridges quantum many-body dynamics and gravity. Dr Milekhin was the first to theoretically describe a traversable wormhole and he visits LIMS to present his work on “entanglement in time".

As well as a LIMS trustee, Ben Delo is an entrepreneur and philanthropist whose causes include neurodiversity and mathematical discovery. 

As well as a LIMS governor, Thore Graepel is a physicist, computer scientist and Distinguished Researcher in AGI Futures at Google DeepMind.

Dr Stephen Wolfram is a physicist and entrepreneur who combines pioneering work in physics and computation with building some of the world’s most influential software. He visits LIMS to discuss his intellectual journey and future ambitions with our director and chief science writer...

As well as a LIMS governor, Ammad Ahmad is a founding partner at Atheneum, a market insights platform that has offices worldwide.

As well as a LIMS governor, Amit Jain is a co-founder of Signal Capital Partners, a $5bn private asset management firm, based in London.

Prof. Dmitry Kaledin of HSE University is a leading authority on category theory. He visits us for a week to give two lectures on homotopical enhancements and non-commutative Hodge theory, and a public talk on the DAU project, which is inspired by the life of physicist Lev Landau.

As well as a LIMS governor, Pinar Emirdağ is an entrepreneur who works in market structure, electronic trading and digital capital markets.

As well as a LIMS governor, Tom Walton Pocock founded Geometry, an investment firm backing companies building at the frontiers of computing.

As well as a LIMS governor, Nick Longrich is a palaeontologist and writer, and senior lecturer in evolutionary biology at Bath University.

Dr Pavel Putrov is a research scientist at ICTP.  His research focuses on formal aspects of quantum field theory. He visits LIMS to give a talk on his recent work on topological gauge theories and to collaborate with Juven Wang on symmetric mass generation and strong CP problem.

Prof. Guido Caldarelli is a Full Professor at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and Director of CNR-ISC. An Associate Fellow and longstanding friend of LIMS, he visits regularly to collaborate with our scientists and contribute to the institute’s wider vision and future direction.

As well as a LIMS governor, Katya Gorbiatouk is a capital markets executive and the Head of Investment Funds at the London Stock Exchange.

As well as a LIMS governor, Aleksei Makin is the founder of Cognia AI, a lab that does research at the interface of GenAI and neuroscience.
