Ramanujan Researchers
9 OCT 2025
The London Institute is partnering with the Indian government to create a scheme for young theorists and mathematicians to work with us.
Following UK Prime Minister Kier Starmer’s visit to India, the London Institute is launching the Ramanujan Junior Researchers programme, supported in part by India’s Department of Science and Technology.
In phase one, the Ramanujan Junior Visitors initiative will allow Indian PhD students, selected in the first instance from the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, to spend several months at the London Institute, once the quarters of Michael Faraday. It is envisioned that this scheme will be widened in subsequent years to attract the very best students from across India. The campaign to secure the backing of the Indian government for this scheme was spearheaded by the Indian High Commissioner, His Excellency Vikram Doraiswami.
In phase two, Ramanujan Junior Fellows–physicists and mathematicians from across India in the early years after their PhD–will join us for three transformative years. The London Institute is raising funds for the Ramanujan Junior Fellowships.
